Portfolio of Works
Portfolio: Impressionist Practice
This collection represents the core of Natasha Ramras's observational practice—a body of work shaped by direct engagement with the landscape and a commitment to translating fleeting atmospheric moments into timeless visual form. Deeply rooted in the varied terrain of the Pacific Northwest and informed by classical drawing and painting traditions, these works examine how light transforms the ordinary into luminous, contemplative spaces.
Executed in oil and watercolor, the paintings balance immediacy with structural rigor. Through impasto textures, nuanced color harmonies, and responsive mark-making, the series explores a spectrum of natural environments—from the thunder and reflective mist of mountain waterfalls and coastal waters to the quiet enclosures of old-growth forests, alpine ridges, and open rural pastures. Incorporating human figures and wildlife not as isolated subjects, but as integral components of their surrounding habitats, this portfolio stands as a masterwork study of place, movement, and light.
Portfolio: Abstract Practice
These abstract paintings explore ecological memory, accumulation and environmental change through layered, repeatedly reworked surfaces. Luminous color, fragmented shapes and shifting spatial relationships suggest erosion, growth, migration and the traces left by natural and human activity. Rather than depicting a specific landscape, the works translate experiences of coastlines, forests, geological formations and changing environments into an evolving visual language.
The portfolio includes atmospheric ecological fields, vertical Environmental Stacks, biomorphic Environmental Totems and horizontal migration works. Across these related bodies, forms may evoke strata, vessels, seeds, bones or improvised monuments while resisting a fixed identity. Each painting considers what an environment retains, what it loses and what new structures emerge through transformation.
The portfolio includes both available and collected works. Please open an individual painting for dimensions, medium and availability.
Plein Air Studies and Small Works
Plein air painting is the engine of Natasha Ramras's observational practice. Painted outdoors in single-session field studies, these small-format works record the immediate, unedited dialogue between artist and environment. Working quickly to capture rapidly shifting light, drifting fog, and transient weather patterns, these compositions prioritize fluid brushwork, instinctual color relationships, and fresh textural energy over studio finish.
Ranging in scale from intimate 6"x8" field panels to 12"x16" studio studies in oil and watercolor, these pieces function both as independent small-scale gems and as the foundational color research for monumental studio canvases. This collection offers collectors an accessible entry point into the artist's practice, featuring direct studies of coastal surf, mountain light, woodland shadows, and rural quietude—each preserving the exact atmosphere of a specific time and place.
Coastal
Water is both a physical force and a sensory medium. This collection examines aquatic environments across varying states of motion, studying how light refracts, reflects, and reshapes natural forms—from the torrent of mountain waterfalls and rushing rivers to the vast, undulating rhythm of the open ocean.
Anchored in impressionistic plein-air observation and expressive paint handling, these works bridge pristine wilderness with human presence on the water. Through intimate studies of sailors navigating tidal currents, fishermen suspended in early morning fog, and coastal shores caught between tide and sky, the series balances raw elemental energy with the quiet endurance of maritime heritage.
Available Prints
These limited edition prints are produced from select original paintings and released in small, finite editions. Each image is chosen for its ability to translate the material presence and spatial complexity of the original work into printed form, preserving nuance of color, surface, and structure.
Printed on museum-quality archival paper, all editions are signed, numbered, and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Editions are released infrequently and are tied to specific bodies of work, offering collectors an intimate point of entry into the practice while maintaining the integrity and scarcity of the originals.
